My AIESEC GT Experience: by Ariff = ^ ^ =

“Two roads diverge into the woods and I
- I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference”

-Robert Frost, American Poet -

When I was in university, every wednesday night seemed like waiting for a date to happen: The anticipation of the moment made my heart beat a little bit faster, my hands a little bit sweatier, and my nose itch a little bit more than usual. Reason being was that my wednesday nights were my AIESEC General Training (GT) nights. Every Wednesday we would have our seniors watching & coaching over us, our interns sharing their experience and most of the times having (my personal favourite) team building games and sharing personal experience both in AIESEC and out of it. I have always been quite a shy person but every wednesday nights I always felt safe my AIESEC friends whom eventually became my AIESEC family. My Wednesday GT nights felt like that I could be myself and I would not be judged for it. I felt like I was on top of the world.

As I saw my seniors left and it was my turn to continue my AIESEC journey, I knew then and there that I had the responsibility to do the same and probably more for my juniors like they did previously. The rest as they say is history.

Looking back, I’m glad that I took the ‘AIESEC WAY’ and never regretted that choice for a moment. I could not imagine my life without AIESEC and I could not imagine anything else giving me such pleasure, fulfilment, and great friends…all in one package.

My seniors set good examples to follow and my juniors continue to inspire me everyday. My GT’s brought all of us together and that to me has made all the difference. This is my AIESEC experience, what about yours?

If the MC was a football team

If the MC was a football team, each player would have to play a position or a number. Thus, we must first select a formation for this team of 9.

While it is difficult to select a proper team formation, the best would be a normal system of 3-4-1. Why such a system? This would help pack the midfield, where they would both work flexibly for both offensive and defensive situations.

So we shall start with the 3-4-1 system, with the midfield being a diamond, meaning a defensive midfielder and a player playing ‘in the hole’, while two wingers play at the side, running up and down for offence and defense.

Goalkeeper – 1 – William
As the main person working closest to the administration of AIESEC Malaysia and Member Committee, he would also be considered the ‘last person’ closest to base, which is the goal-post.

Right-back – 2 – Csilli
LC Development, Csilli would make marauding runs to externals, but be focused in helping LCs develop and build capacity while helping in ICX.

Left-back – 3 – Jasper
Similar to Csilli, Jasper has the task of managing the human resource of AIESEC and give assistance to the midfield, while ensuring that OGX is running smoothly. Often going to the last third to deliver talks about AIESEC for recruitment purposes.

Full-back – 5 – Ariff
The defensive rock of the team, Ariff searches for grants while helping maintain order in the team with his calm personality.

Defensive Midfielder – 4 – Ethan
The pitbull, aggressive and persistent, Ethan works as an engine of the team, helping supply the energy and talent to bring AIESEC Malaysia to greater heights.

Right Winger – 7 – Geral
Working in tandem with the striker, Geral frequently contacts externals like a right winger, dribbling through hurdles to get the contacts and help get the AIESEC name out. Working closely with the striker, she often takes shots on goal to bring the money in.

Left Winger – 11 – Nick
A right-footed left winger forces Nick to enter through the center of the park, helping add manpower to the midfield. Creative and full of tricks, Nick causes opponents and fans alike to be dazzled by his creative footwork. Also well known for this amazing dance celebrations.

Playmaker – 10 – Sandy
The man strategizer and captain of the team. Consistently involved in all team movements forward or back, Sandy is the driver to Ethan’s engine, making goal-scoring passes and pin-point crosses when she floats to the right of the field.

Striker – 9 – James
The lone striker, James works to bring the money home by scoring the vital goals. Constantly at the opponent’s back line, darting to ensure that can release the offside trap and grab a goal with his predatory instincts. Works well with Geral as well, heading in goals from her crosses.

There. Not a bad team, don't you think?

I just want to share now one thing why I love to be in the MC, why it is so good. You know as an MC member, you do a lot for the country, for the members. They are the most important.

So one week ago, on Saturday morning when I woke there was a message waiting for me on my phone, from Joanne, Alish and ICX depertment of UTM. They wrote me so happily that they matched 2 TN forms! one with South-Africa - Holland (she is ex AI member, Jeanne Du Plessis) and a DT form with Japan. They wrote me just to say thank you for my help. Seriously, I was so touched and happy. Called them immediately to congratulate! :-)

The first International Facilitator Experience

HEY PEOPLE,

Information System AIESEC Conference (ISAC)is my first conference that I facilitated in BANDUNG, INDONESIA. It is a kind of surprise that when I reach to Indonesia, I felt like I am still somewhere in Malaysia because everyone just start talking in Bahasa Melayu. Well I reach Bandung at 19th Nov morning.

After checking out, I was brought to one AIESECer home. He is a very rich guy, the house contain a swimming pool and it just look grand. Inside the house got a pool table and a drum set.

A bad experience, I lost my US$50. Not in Indonesia but Malaysia Airport. LCCT.
The thing that make me laugh the whole day. As in the story, I lost US$50 and I left 550000 rupiah = RM200, the food in Indonesia is like "CHEAP LIKE a CANDY". You probably will have around RM4 one meal with quite high class food in Malaysia. Let say the first day, I went to eat Western food, I spend only RM12, for a Spaggeti Chicken Chop and a drink.

Well, lets move to the conference story. Well, the first day of the conference that was great because I was thinking that the IS conference for 5 days, will that be a bit redundant or not much info ? After I experience and planed the agenda, I realise actually we have lots of things to be cover and lucky we have Aditya from India, He is the Senior Musketeer, learn lots from him. I can say that I will regret if I am not apply for facilitator because we having so much fun and learn so much computer coding ans sharing every night. Actually we keep copy the files from each other because everyone is full with information with them.

The facilitators for this conference are Vin Lee (HongKong) , David Susandi (Indonesia), David Benjamin who will join NLDS Malaysia as facilitator (New Zealand), Aditya from India and me.

But before day 1, we have global Village at day 0. I actually saw Indah (I met her at India during APXLDS) and a few HEROES delegates (They came to Malaysia)also the Hong Kong delegate that I knew, that's why I always said that AIESEC network is in 2 degrees. This are some pictures of GV, another funny story, HK delegates actually bring a MAHJONG, then we are like teaching the Indonesian how to play MahJong in Malaysia Booth.

There is actually a very good experience for me to attend the ISAC as a facilitator and I learn much more than I believe if I join as facilitator. We are actually suppose to teach the members together with NLDS and MNC tracks for the myaiesec.net session. I was the EMCEE of the day for this session. It is another good experience for me to explain about the system support in the session.

Will continue with the part 2 if possible......because I still in the conference. was posted at 7pm +7.00GMT.

My Second APXLDS Conference Experience.

When I first joined AIESEC in 2004, I’ve always imagined if I can ever attend an AIESEC international conference…

My dream finally came through again when I have the opportunity to attend APXLDS 2007 in India after my first APXLDS in Philippines in 2006. I felt really proud representing the country together with 4 other delegates from Malaysia in the conference. APXLDS for me was quite an intensive experience because never before I was given an opportunity to think so deeply about my values, putting them on paper and thinking about them, discussing them with all the amazing people at the conference. Never before did I think about my vision concerning my personal and professional life. Never before did I think I would be able to make a positive impact in the society I’m living in today and never before did I think I will be developing strategies for AIESEC in Malaysia.

Thanks to this conference, I’ve discovered simply what I'm going to do next year, I changed my mind and from those thoughts I could built up a carrier vision from myself. I consider that a great result of APXLDS. It planted the seeds in me that I really needed.

I'm so glad to be at APXLDS again. Meeting back some old friends was really great. The conference made me realized how much we can do for this organization to create the impact. I've also realized that there are still a lot to learn and to contribute. I'm truly inspired by each and every individual at the conference. If you ask me what I get out of the conference, I would say “INSPIRATION”. Inspiration that I believe I will make a difference for myself and the people around me.

If you ever get a chance to go to an international conference, do it. Do your best to get there. It will be an awesome experience. You are not discovering yourself, but creating yourself anew. Seek, therefore, not to find out who you are, seek to determine who you want to be.
