Simply put, It's my story.

I am leading a team of 9 extremely bright people from all across Malaysia, with diverse cultures and backgrounds.
I am leading the Malaysian chapter of the largest student organization on the globe.
I am facilitating and driving the global and national strategies of AIESEC towards achieving it’s highest potential to develop young Malaysian talents for a better future career and society.’
Geraldine Sandra Sebastian, President of AIESEC in Malaysia, 07/08

I have been in AIESEC for the past 5 years. Many ask, what is this organization and why would anyone want to spend so much of time here? Well, AIESEC in the worlds largest youth organization. We are present in over 100 countries and have a membership consisting of over 23000 members. But its not how big or how established AIESEC is, that has kept me around. It has been for the opportunities and the network that AIESEC offers, that has helped propelled many young people in being successful. AIESEC in its fundamentals is a platform for development. My background of study is Applied Chemistry, and I am a graduate of Universiti Malaya. Without hesitations I really do love my university, however, in terms of the course and development it offers, it is still very strictly limited to being a chemist. This translates into working in a lab, doing research. I was given the opportunity to explore more of my potential and what I am good at, through what AIESEC does. I was given an opportunity to lead and manage teams in my second year of AIESEC, talk and market the organization to many different corporate and non corporate, travel abroad to network with AIESECers from different continents through an International Conference discussing the worlds social issues, and more than that, discover a network of young people nationally and internationally passionate about affecting change.

So AIESEC for me, has been a platform to see and explore more than what a university degree offers. I am right now, in my 5 th year of AIESEC, leading the national committee of AIESEC Malaysia, with a team of 9 other people, ranging from different races and religions, Malay, Chinese, Indian, and even a Hungarian, I manage and lead a national membership of over 600 young people here, I communicate and work with various CEO’s of global organizations such as Standard Chartered Bank, DKSH Malaysia, Accenture, UNICEF and more. Today, I am looked upon as an influential youth representative, leading forums hosted by UNICEF, participating in national entrepreneur conventions and more.

What I love about this organization is that, I did not have to be somebody to join it. I did not have to spend a fortune to participate in its activities. All I needed was a will to want to learn and develop and a passion to the organization and what we do.

I joined university and AIESEC, an ordinary person. I am leaving AIESEC being extraordinary. My hope is that more young Malaysians, take up this opportunity to develop and be different from your peers. This is my story. I hope you have one as fruitful as mine.

With love and passion for AIESEC,
Geraldine Sandra Sebastian
President 2007/2008
AIESEC in Malaysia
